Since the takeover, one of the major stories at Newcastle United has been of incoming players.
On their journey towards the upper echelons of the game, its only natural to see big names linked with a move to Newcastle.
One problem they have not encountered in the PIF era thus far, however, is keeping a key star amid interest from elsewhere.
Such has been the success of the team of late, it’s simply not something that has come up.
Still, players move on.
We’ve seen Manchester City lose the likes of Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan to other big European clubs, while Chelsea lost an in-form Eden Hazard in 2019.
Even in their pomp under Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United sold Cristiano Ronaldo.
It is something that happens.
Though there’s no suggestion Bruno Guimaraes is leaving Newcastle anytime soon, the midfielder did recently say the doubt in regards to his signing of a new contract was “ongoing.”
Naturally, Eddie Howe wants a resolution.

Speaking after Newcastle’s win over Brighton in New Jersey, Howe admitted he was not personally involved in the talks but did stress how much he wants to keep the 25-year-old.
“We would love Bruno to extend his stay here for a long time,” he said (via the Daily Mail).
“I’m not party to those talks every day, and there are talks ongoing. I think Bruno knows how we feel about him and I know he’s very happy here. We hope there is a solution to be found.’
Newcastle cannot be held to ransom
While it would be crazy to suggest the club shouldn’t try and extend the Brazilian’s contract, Newcastle can’t be held to ransom.
The report adds Guimaraes is currently paid in the region of £140k-per-week, making him the club’s top earner. A significant rise on that would presumably see him move even further away from the rest of the wage structure, something Howe has been keen to keep intact.
Blindly agreeing to any salary going does not fit in with the measured approached PIF have adopted so far.
