Bruno Guimaraes has had a transformative impact since signing for Newcastle United.
Arguably the best player in the new era and the kind of talent who surely would have shone in any Newcastle team over the years, Guimaraes’s importance cannot be overstated.
As such, the Brazilian has been linked away.
Real Madrid are reportedly keen on a move for the midfielder, who is yet to sign a new contract at the club.
While there is little need to rush given the 25-year-old has three years left on his current deal, it was quite a while ago now that talk of a new one emerged.
Now, Guimaraes has spoken.

After Newcastle wrapped up their tour of the United States with a comeback win over Brighton, Guimaraes confirmed his desire to stay.
Still, he did add that the “doubt” was ongoing given no new deal has actually been signed.
“I want to stay. How do you say it, it’s ongoing,” he said.
“There is no news (in terms of an update). I want to stay, but the doubt is ongoing. So, let’s see”

The allure of a team like Madrid must be hard to ignore, particularly for South American players given the long history the club have of housing the best talents from that part of the world.
Still, there’s a job to do at Newcastle.
Champions League qualification is all well and good in one season but the challenge is to achieve that on a regular basis all while competing for major honours.
With little need to sell as things stand, Newcastle must build around Guimaraes going forward and give him the kind of environment that’s simply too good to leave.
Hopefully, there will soon be a resolution.
