‘Easily’… Alan Shearer now makes very interesting claim about Newcastle’s latest win over Nottingham Forest

Alan Shearer has delivered an interesting verdict on Newcastle United’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.

The Magpies returned to winning ways at the weekend, beating Nottingham Forest away from home to move up to seventh in the Premier League.

It was an absolutely massive win for Newcastle United, and Eddie Howe proved that with his passionate celebration in front of the travelling Toon Army after the final whistle.

The victory was inspired by Bruno Guimaraes, who scored a brace at the City Ground. It was a spectacular one too, with both of his goals proving to be outstanding.

The win means that Newcastle have suddenly won four consecutive away games, having previously struggled to perform anywhere other than St James’ Park.

Just like it was last season away to Forest, this could be a really defining moment for Newcastle United’s season. However, it very nearly wasn’t according to Alan Shearer.

Alan Shearer thinks Newcastle could have lost against Nottingham Forest

Newcastle United legend Shearer has written about the win for the Premier League’s official website after including Bruno in his team of the week.

Shearer wrote: “A match-winning performance [from Bruno] with his two well-taken goals in a game that could easily have gone the other way against Nottingham Forest.”

Huge moment in Newcastle’s season

Since the win over Forest, all the talk has been about Bruno Guimaraes and putting three more points on the board. However, it was far from a straightforward victory.

As Shearer says, that game easily could have gone the other way – especially given Forest’s penalty appeal that was turned down when it was 2-2. If that had been given – and some will argue that it should have – Forest would have had a golden chance to lead the game. And from there, they probably would have been the winners.

It was fine margins on Saturday night, and it was Newcastle who edged it and got the stroke of luck. Sometimes you need a win like that, and it could prove to be a massive moment in the Magpies’ season as they look to challenge for Europe.
