Newcastle United player Dan Burn has shared what it is like to train with star striker Alexander Isak.

The Magpies defender has become a legend on Tyneside for his impressive performances and memorable cup final goal this season.

Dan Burn etched himself in Newcastle United’s history books with a remarkable header against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final, one very few had seen before.

While the header was one that Newcastle fans will never forget, Burn is already sick of his goal after watching it back so many times.

In Alexander Isak’s case, fans will have his goal in the Carabao Cup final on repeat for years to come. The 25-year-old has been unstoppable at times this season, scoring 23 goals and bagging six assists in the Premier League alone.

Isak was praised by Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina, with the 28-year-old admitting he is one of the toughest players he has played against in his career.

His form on the pitch would make many believe that Isak is a nightmare to play against in training. Burn has now told fans exactly what it is like to play against the Magpies’ star striker.

Dan Burn on training with Alexander Isak at Newcastle United

Peter Crouch recently linked Isak to Virgil van Dijk for his influence at Newcastle, and it is hard to disagree with him.

Toon boss Eddie Howe would have to find goals from elsewhere if the Sweden international were not part of the squad. No other player in the team comes close to his Premier League goal tally.

Isak said he always wants Bruno Guimaraes on his team in training, but Burn may not have the same thing to say about Isak.

In a video with TNT Sport, Burn visited a local school in his hometown of Blyth. Children were allowed to ask him questions as part of the visit.

One child asked Burn how hard it is to train against Isak every day. Burn simply replied, saying “It’s easy.”

The 33-year-old let out a big grin after his answer, perhaps suggesting that it is by no means easy to play against him in training.

Dan Burn receives high praise from Eddie Howe

With three games left in the Premier League season, Burn will be a huge part of Howe’s starting XI.

Newcastle play Chelsea on Sunday, where a win would move them within touching distance of Champions League qualification, exactly what fans hoped for at the start of the season.

In his pre-match press conference on Friday, Howe was asked about Burn and the season he has had. The 33-year-old has made some brilliant memories throughout the 2024/25 campaign that even the best writers could not make up.

“Dan’s season will be up there, if you had written a dream season, it would have been very close to this for him,” Howe said.

“The goal in the cup final, that was the best header I have ever seen him deliver, then very quickly he had the England call up and debut. Very special moments for him and fully deserved.”
