Newcastle United face off against Chelsea in a massive match in the race for a Champions League place this weekend.
With the Premier League title secured by Liverpool and the relegation places all guaranteed, the battle to finish in a European spot is the only interesting thing remaining this season.
As a result, Newcastle United vs Chelsea is the biggest game still remaining in the 2024-25 campaign, with everything on the line for Eddie Howe’s side.
Chelsea have been resurgent in recent weeks and sit on equal points with the Magpies. In fact, the two sides even have the same goal difference, with only Newcastle’s four extra goals separating them.
With the top five guaranteeing a Champions League place this season, a defeat for either side won’t rule them out, but a victory will surely guarantee a place in next year’s prestigious competition.
Here’s everything you need to know about the important fixture.

Newcastle United vs Chelsea team news
Howe has suggested there are a couple of injury doubts for Newcastle, but has remained coy on who he could be without for the match.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, he said: “We’ve got a couple of players we’re looking at and assessing, and we’ll see how they are from the weekend.
“But apart from that, we’re OK. We trained well this week, I’ve been pleased with the group. Very focused on Sunday.”
When asked who might be out, he replied: “Let’s keep that under wraps.“
The manager also offered an update on Joelinton’s status after his season-ending injury: “I saw Joe yesterday for the first time in a while as he’d been away and he’d returned to Brazil briefly, but he’s been back in Barcelona for another injection.
“I think he’s feeling pretty good. Whether we stand before the end of the season or not, I’m not sure.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea will be without Wesley Fofana, Christopher Nkunku, Mykhailo Mudryk, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino and Marc Guiu.

Prediction
This match is incredibly tough to call. A lot is on the line and Newcastle’s form has gotten patchy just as Chelsea have hit their stride.
Yet, last weekend’s draw did come against a bogey side in Brighton, while Chelsea defeated a heavily rotated Liverpool that had nothing to play for.
The two teams have played each other twice already, with the Toon winning at home in the Carabao Cup but losing at Stamford Bridge in the league three days earlier.
A draw wouldn’t even suit both parties, as it would give the chance for Nottingham Forest to draw back level on points when they play Leicester City.
So Newcastle will have to go all out and hopefully the raucous home advantage will make the difference.
Prediction: Newcastle 2-1 Chelsea.
