Dan Burn has shared yet more insight to Alexander Isak’s controversial move from Newcastle United to Liverpool.

While Burn holds no animosity towards Isak for leaving Newcastle United, the same cannot really be said of the supporters.

Indeed, Newcastle fans were angry with Isak even before he left the club on deadline day for a British record sum.

The striker’s self-imposed exile from Eddie Howe’s first-team arguably cost the team Premier League points, while also creating a dark cloud over the club throughout the summer transfer window.

Isak said goodbye to Newcastle fans in a social media post but even those words may strike as hollow given his conduct before leaving for Anfield.

Though very few members of the Newcastle United squad sent public messages to Isak following his departure, Burn has revealed it was different behind the scenes.

Alexander Isak sent message to Newcastle United squad

Burn was quizzed on the matter, and more quotes came out following Friday’s 10.30pm embargo.

The Newcastle United defender revealed Isak had put a message in the team chat, thanking his former teammates for the memories to which they all replied.

Burn said (via The Independent): “He put a message in the chat just saying that he was leaving, and thanks for the memories, all that sort of stuff, and the lads replied.

“But as I said, I think Alex is getting what he wants, and now we’ve just got to focus and do what we can with the players that we’ve got.”

Alexander Isak seriously annoyed one Newcastle United teammate

Isak’s time at Newcastle surely didn’t have to end so badly. He can hardly be blamed for wanting to move on and, if handled correctly, the Sweden star could have gone down as a legend.

However, the 25-year-old took a different route and the fact he eventually got his move despite Newcastle initially not wanting to sell may make him feel as if his actions were justified.

The same has to be said for Yoane Wissa, too. Just because Newcastle benefited from that saga doesn’t mean he can be excused for his conduct during the final few weeks of his time at Brentford.

Interestingly, one Newcastle player had to be calmed down after holding a meeting about the Isak saga

It’s not clear who that was but the fact it evoked such a strong reaction summed up what a toxic situation it had become.
