Dan Burn is a professional footballer who plays for Newcastle United.

When Newcastle United first came into immense wealth following the PIF takeover, they didn’t go on a spree of signing world-renowned superstars.

Instead, they moved to weaken their Premier League rivals and brought in a lot of proven quality and experience. Yet, the signing of Dan Burn has proven to be so much more than a clever ploy.

The man from Blyth was already beloved by fans for being a local lad playing for his club, but after scoring the opening goal in the Carabao Cup final, he has become an undoubted Newcastle legend.

Who is Dan Burn?

Daniel Johnson Burn is a professional defender who usually plays at centre-back but has also, despite his size, excelled out on the flank at left-back.

Burn began his career at Newcastle but was released aged 11, though he continued playing at various non-league teams in the North East. While playing for Blyth Spartans, he studied sports science and worked at Asda before being spotted by Darlington.

While impressing during his brief time at Darlo, Burn was spotted and signed by Fulham, propelling him straight back up to the Premier League.

His career remained stop-start as he went out on loan to Yeovil and Birmingham City before establishing himself in the Cottagers’ first team.

Yet, he was released in 2016 and signed for Wigan Athletic in the Championship, where his performances eventually caught the eye of a Brighton side on the rise.

He joined the Seagulls in January 2019 after spending the first half of the season at Wigan on loan and showed his class in the top flight. Three years later, Newcastle finally brought Burn home.

Now he is an icon at St. James’ Park after scoring the opening goal in the Carabao Cup triumph over Liverpool.
