Chris Sutton has named two Newcastle United players who will ‘make the difference’ against Fulham on Saturday.

The Magpies are back at St James’ Park for the first of two crucial home games, and the beginning of what will be an extremely challenging month.

Newcastle United have the Carabao Cup semi-final just days later, while they also have Premier League clashes with Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool on the horizon.

But Eddie Howe’s primary focus will be Fulham, as Newcastle aim to ensure that Marco Silva’s side do not do the double over them after losing at Craven Cottage. Alan Shearer slammed Newcastle’s performance that day, as their stuttering start to the season continued.

Now the Magpies are a different beast, and are the firm favourites to win on Saturday.

Chris Sutton predicts Newcastle United vs Fulham

Paul Merson has predicted a Newcastle United win, and Chris Sutton has told BBC Sport that he agrees.

While he admits that Fulham are unpredictable, the former Blackburn Rovers striker is anticipating a home win.

“Fulham are another team I am finding very hard to predict, but Newcastle are a lot more reliable,” he said.

“Yes, they were walloped by Bournemouth last time out at St James’ Park, but before then they had won five in a row at home in all competitions.

“Fulham are capable of causing them problems and showed that when they beat them 3-1 at Craven Cottage in September.

“But I am going to go for a reverse of that scoreline here. Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon are in excellent form and they will make the difference.”

Anthony Gordon was criticised last time Newcastle United played Fulham

Heading into this game, Anthony Gordon is in outstanding form. He got another assist last week, setting up Sandro Tonali to score Newcastle United’s third goal against Southampton.

The 23-year-old has got eight goals and six assists to his name this season. He has been on a tremendous run, with the attacker boasting 11 goal contributions in his last 13 games for the Magpies.

Gordon really is back to his best, after he endured a slow start to the campaign. That came to a head at Craven Cottage, where Gordon was criticised for his body language.

After that game, Howe held talks with Gordon. Those talks clearly had an impact, as Gordon has since gone on to reaffirm why he is the best left winger in the entire Premier League.
