Newcastle United were awful against Fulham, as their unbeaten start to the Premier League season came to an end.
The Magpies lost 3-1 at Craven Cottage, with Eddie Howe‘s players producing yet another disappointing performance.
In terms of points, Newcastle United have started the season really well. However, the performances have left a lot to be desired.
The hope was that the performance would match the result on Saturday, with Newcastle boasting the chance to go top of the Premier League.
In this instance, the performance did match the result. Sadly, it was a terrible display that ended with Newcastle picking up zero points.

Alan Shearer reflects on ‘awful’ Newcastle performance against Fulham
Ahead of the game, Alan Shearer predicted a draw between Fulham and Newcastle. Sadly, he was incorrect, and the Toon legend has delivered a pretty scathing verdict on the performance at Craven Cottage.
Immediately after the full time whistle, Alan Shearer took to his official X account to comment on Newcastle’s 3-1 defeat to Fulham.
He wrote on X: “That was awful from Newcastle. Got what they deserved. Fulham much much better.”
Newcastle United were extremely poor against Fulham
Sooner or later, Newcastle United’s luck had to run out.
As has been the case all season, there were spells in which Newcastle did alright against Fulham. There was an initial improvement in the second half, after Harvey Barnes clawed a goal back. It was the 26-year-old’s third goal of the season, as Barnes continues his bright start to the campaign.
However, the bad massively outweighed the good. Newcastle’s midfield was non-existent in the first half, while there was a real inability to create chances.
Nick Pope was far too busy in between the sticks, while he severely let himself down for Fulham’s second goal.
Overall, it was a pretty terrible afternoon for Newcastle United.
Newcastle have an immediate chance to bounce back
Luckily, the Magpies have a quick opportunity to bounce back and regain some confidence. Newcastle are in action again on Tuesday night, as they travel to Plough Lane to face AFC Wimbledon in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
While it is a game against League Two opposition, that does not mean it will be a guaranteed victory. Newcastle will have to work extremely hard against the fourth tier side, who knocked out Ipswich Town in the previous round.
But it is a good chance for Newcastle to get back to winning ways so soon after such a worrying performance.
Howe needs to put this right in the cup in midweek, especially with Manchester City heading to St James’ Park next Saturday.
