The next 24 hours are crucial for Newcastle United and their takeover hopes.

With arbitration delayed until next year, all eyes are on the CAT case.

On September 29th, the next stage of Mike Ashley’s legal challenge takes place. A jurisdiction hearing will determine whether or not his anti-competition case will go ahead.

The Premier League unsurprisingly want it thrown out, arguing that it is too similar to the arbitration case.

If they get their wish, it could be devastating for the club. It will mean our takeover hopes seemingly rest on the arbitration case that is set to take place in early 2022.

Ashley reportedly expects to win that case, allowing him to sell the club to PCP Capital Partners. However, he was confident in the summer when it was initially set to take place. But the hearing was delayed due to ‘issues with disclosure of evidence’.

The CAT case won’t provide an immediate solution to the problems surrounding the takeover. Even if the case gets the go-ahead, it could still be a lengthy process.

But a win for the club will keep the takeover dream alive. A defeat will be another nail in the coffin for the Saud-backed takeover.

Sadly for Toon fans, they’re very familiar with defeat this season, with the Steve Bruce yet to win a game. But if their first victory comes in the courts, it could lead to a bright future for Newcastle United.

The next 24 hours are vital.
