Callum Wilson believes that a Newcastle United win against Everton is a big opportunity to push away from the drop zone. The Magpies are currently nine points clear of the bottom three and could extend the gap even further tonight.
They’ll be full of confidence after their strong run of form in 2022 so far. The Toon forward spoke about the match on the ‘Footballer’s Football Podcast‘ with co-host Michail Antonio.
“Teams like Everton that are below you is where you need to be taking your points from to bridge a gap even further from us and the relegation zone,” Wilson said.
I feel we’ve built a gap now, but we don’t want to get sucked back into it.”

Newcastle will also be looking to set their sights on the top 10
A win against Everton will move Newcastle into 12th place. They’d jump above Brighton and Leicester and be level on points with Crystal Palace.
Considering Everton’s run of form under Frank Lampard, the Magpies will fancy their chances. In the league, the Toffees have only beaten Leeds and lost the other five Premier League games since Lampard took charge.
They may have suffered their first loss of 2022, but the 1-0 defeat against Chelsea wasn’t a bad performance. In fact, Newcastle were unlucky not to come away with at least a point.
Had Kai Havertz been sent off or the foul on Jacob Murphy been given as a penalty, the result could’ve been very different. They’ll be looking to bounce back tonight.

Eddie Howe’s side has had a number of injuries this season. We’ve seen Callum Wilson, Kieran Trippier and Allan Saint-Maximin ruled out for multiple games, to name a few.
But they’ve not let it get to them. If anything we’ve seen players in the side be able to shine because of it. Ryan Fraser has looked like a totally new player, showing the talents from his Bournemouth days under Howe.
Newcastle has been instilled with belief and since 2022 began – they look fearless. They look like they believe they can beat anyone they come up against. That’s been mostly true, going on a nine-game undefeated run.
