Newcastle United have been sweating on the fitness of Bruno Guimaraes ahead of this weekend’s game against Manchester City, but it looks like he will be fit to play.

Bruno picked up an ankle injury in the Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester United, leading to fears that he would not be available for Newcastle‘s next game against Manchester City.

The Athletic stated that he had picked up a similar problem to the one he suffered against Fulham in January, and was ‘touch and go‘ for this weekend’s Premier League contest.

However, the club have now released training pictures in the buildup to the trip to the Etihad, and Bruno’s presence suggests he will be good to go.

The club have released 65 training photos on their official website from Thursday’s session. Bruno features heavily, which suggests he has shaken off the ankle injury he suffered at Wembley.

That is a huge boost, as he is our most important player. He makes us tick. That was evident last weekend, as he was having a brilliant game against Man United before injury struck.

The 25-year-old was in tears after the final defeat, and will now hope to bounce back at the home of the champions. That will be incredibly difficult, as we have never won a Premier League game at the Etihad Stadium.

Eddie Howe is going to need a big performance from his players to get any kind of result, and he will be buoyed by the fact that Bruno is fit and available.

There is concern over Fabian Schar, however. He has not been spotted in any of the 65 photos on the club’s website, which casts doubt over his involvement on Saturday.

The 31-year-old defender took a knock to the head early on in the cup final, and was surprisingly allowed to play on.

We await news from Howe on Friday morning about Schar’s fitness, and any other updates ahead of the trip to Manchester City.
