Newcastle United beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 on Sunday afternoon, with two summer signings making a big impact.

Eddie Howe saw Bruno Guimaraes open the scoring against Forest before Nick Woltemade doubled Newcastle’s lead from the penalty spot.

Woltemade is on fire at St James’ Park and is understandably earning huge praise for his performances.

The German isn’t the only summer signing making an impact, though, as compatriot Malick Thiaw is also shining.

Bruno Guimaraes praises Newcastle United’s Malick Thiaw

Newcastle snapped up Thiaw from AC Milan in August, and the Magpies appear to have struck gold with another raid on the Italian side.

Sandro Tonali has become a Newcastle fan favourite since his 2023 move from AC Milan, and Thiaw looks to be heading the same way.

Magpies supporters praised Thiaw for his performance against Forest, and Bruno Guimaraes has now joined in.

Speaking to The Northern Echo, Bruno marvelled at ‘what a player’ Thiaw is, having been dazzled by the German defender.

Bruno added that Thiaw has surprised him in terms of being ‘very good’ both in and out of possession.

Thiaw and fellow defender Sven Botman are the ‘future’ of Newcastle in Bruno’s eyes, believing that they have been ‘amazing’ together.

“What a player he [Thiaw] is,” said Guimaraes. “He surprised me a lot. He is very good with and without the ball as well, so quick, smart, breaking lines.

“Him and Sven are the future of this club. They’re very good. They’re very comfortable with the ball and don’t feel the pressure – they have been amazing together,” he added.

Malick Thiaw worth the wait for Newcastle United

Newcastle fans will recall that Eddie Howe wanted to sign Thiaw in the summer of 2024.

Howe hinted at interest in Thiaw back in July 2024 as Newcastle attempted to bring in another central defender.

No deal was done at the time, but Newcastle returned for Thiaw this summer – and the patience has paid off.

Thiaw looks to be a perfect fit alongside Botman and still has so much potential at the age of just 24.

The German international must stay fit and cope with the ups and downs of Premier League life, but the early signs suggest that Newcastle have signed a star, just over a year after initially targeting his signature.
