Bruno Guimaraes is now just waiting for Newcastle contract offer

Newcastle United have not had to deal with trying to keep a star player out of the clutches of other clubs thus far in the PIF era.

Such has been the success of the team since late-2021, Newcastle’s story has been one of a rapid rise.

As a result, the focus has been on bringing players to St James’ Park, while trying to shift deadwood out.

Still, with a number of players starring in the Premier League, interest is likely to emerge.

Take Bruno Guimaraes for example.

The Brazilian is said to have long-term admirers in the form of Real Madrid and is yet to sign a new contract.

Clearly, there’s little need to panic right away given the midfielder still has three years to run on his deal but for him to have suggested the “doubt” was ongoing was a little concerning.

The ball, however, looks to be in Newcastle’s court.

Bruno Guimaraes now just waiting for PIF to offer him a new contract

Indeed, according to The Chronicle, the player’s agents are now just waiting for an offer from PIF about improving and extending his contract.

Guimaraes has already made it clear he wishes to stay at the club long-term but it would only be natural to seek an improved deal given the transformative impact he’s had since joining from Lyon. Hailed as “magnificent” by Alan Shearer, it’s hard to imagine last season going as well without him.

It is claimed fresh talks are planned after pre-season is done and dusted with.

Difficult situation for Newcastle

With the club operating with a certain wage structure in mind, it’s going to be fascinating to see what Newcastle do next.

The idea of Guimaraes leaving, even if not any time soon, is hardly worth thinking about.

Still, little about what the club have done since the takeover would suggest they’re willing to be held to ransom.

Already said to be Newcastle’s top earner on £140k-per-week, the next offer would presumably have to be much higher, thereby distancing the midfielder from the rest of the squad on the wages front.

Though certainly deserving of a new deal, it’s a difficult balancing act for the club.
