Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has provided an update on his fitness and has refused to rule out a return against West Ham.

The Magpies head to the London Stadium on Sunday to take on David Moyes’ side, and there’s a chance they could be without their star midfielder.

Bruno has missed Newcastle’s last three games, not featuring in the draws with Wolves and Crystal Palace or the defeat to to Liverpool.

While Sean Longstaff has picked up after a disappointing outing at Molineux, Bruno is a huge miss in the middle of the park.

The 24-year-old returning this weekend would seriously boost our chances of getting a result against West Ham, and Bruno has now commented on whether or not he will be fit to play.

The Brazil international was at St James’ Park on Tuesday night for a meet and greet with supporters alongside Joelinton, Miguel Almiron and Javi Manquillo.

Bruno spoke to NUFC TV during the event, and addressed his battle to be fit for Sunday.

“I’ve been working hard for this, it’s my goal,” he said.

“But I don’t know if I will be ready. I know I need to answer this question for many fans today. I am doing my best to be ready as soon as possible.”

Newcastle need Bruno back

Bruno was probably bombarded with questions from fans about his fitness last night. But he remains tight-lipped on whether or not he will be able to feature.

Hopefully the club releases some training photos soon and that will give us a better idea if he is likely to play. If he’s pictured training with the man group then surely there’s a chance.

Considering he was ‘close’ to being involved against Palace at the weekend, surely he will be available for the trip to West Ham.

We certainly need him back, with our midfield lacking in his absence. The trio of Joe Willock, Longstaff and Joelinton have started the last three games and put a lot into each.

We need a fresh pair of legs in the middle of the park, which is why it is vital we get Bruno back fit as soon as possible.

It will depend on how much he has trained with the first-team and the type of injury. Eddie Howe isn’t going to take a risk and throw his star player back into action too soon, but he will also be aware that we are desperately missing the former Lyon man.

Bruno is working hard to return as soon as possible, and hopefully it pays off with an appearance at the London Stadium on Sunday.
