Reporter shares whether or not Bruno and Saint-Maximin will return vs West Ham

Newcastle United fans are desperate for at least one of Bruno Guimaraes or Allan Saint-Maximin to return against West Ham on Sunday.

The Brazilian has missed the Magpies’ last three games with injury, while Saint-Maximin didn’t feature against Liverpool or Crystal Palace. He hasn’t been seen since his thunderous volley that rescued a point away to Wolves.

Eddie Howe has also been without Callum Wilson too, who suffered a hamstring injury against Manchester City.

Newcastle have been playing well without some of their star players, but are yet to pick up their second win of the season. However, they can point the finger at Lee Mason and VAR costing them three points against Palace.

But with our next game against West Ham looming, the Athletic’s Chris Waugh has provided an exciting update on Bruno and Saint-Maximin possibly returning.

Waugh on Bruno and Saint-Maximin possibly returning this weekend

The reporter has spoke on the latest episode of Pod On The Tyne and commented on whether or not Bruno and Saint-Maximin could feature against the Hammers.

“From our understanding of where they are fitness wise, I think there’s a decent chance that Bruno and or Allan Saint-Maximin could be back for West Ham,” he said.

“I think Wilson might be the weekend after or possibly the weekend after that. I don’t think he’s likely to be back [on Sunday].

“But at this stage it’s looking hopeful that at least one of the other two will be back, if not both.”

Newcastle need top quality duo back

While Newcastle have played really well recently, Howe needs Bruno and Saint-Maximin back. Even just one of them returning to face West Ham on Sunday would be a real boost.

Bruno’s presence in midfield would be more than welcome against the Hammers. Otherwise Declan Rice could dominate. Our midfield has also looked leggy after the past couple of games, so a returning Bruno would be excellent.

As for Saint-Maximin, he will bring more craft in the final third – an area where Newcastle struggled on Saturday. For all our dominance, we couldn’t find the net.

If Howe can call upon one of Bruno or Saint-Maximin on Sunday, it will massively increase our chances of getting a result at the London Stadium. However, it would obviously be even better if both were declared fit.
