There was talk that Bruno Guimaraes could leave Newcastle United during the summer transfer window, and now the Toon midfielder has joked about an exit.
The Brazil international was linked with a move to Real Madrid last month after Casemiro joined Manchester United. However, Bruno stayed put at St James’ Park.
Now it’s Bruno himself talking about a move away from Newcastle…but only on loan.
Bruno reacts to Athletico Paranaense victory
While the Champions League gets underway in Europe, South America’s equivalent is reaching its climax.
The final of the 2022 Copa Libertadores is set to take place in October, and one of the finalists is Bruno’s former club.
Athletico Paranaense booked their place in the final last night. They beat Palmeiras 3-2 on aggregate, and will likely face Flamengo in the final next month.
Flamengo still have a second leg to play against Velez Sarsfield tonight, but have a 4-0 advantage after the first game.
But Paranaense are definitely in the final, and Bruno is very excited for his former club.
After the game, he tweeted: “Vamooooos vamooos players we want to win the cup libertareeees!!! What a show, proud of all the boys. If we go to the world, I’m already negotiating the loan clause.”
If his former side win the whole tournament, they would qualify for next year’s Club World Cup. And Bruno has suggested he would rejoin the club on loan if that happened.
Fortunately he included a laughing emoji just so Toon fans know he is joking.

While Bruno’s former side could qualify for the next Club World Cup, his current side are a long way away from it.
Newcastle are nowhere near reaching those heights. First they need to return to the Champions League, which is going to be incredibly difficult.
However, it is the goal of Bruno and the Toon owners. That’s where they want the club to be. When that will happen remains to be seen, but positive steps are already being taken.
This season, the club will hope to at least challenge for a place in Europe. But there is so much quality in the Premier League that even that will be difficult.
Seeing European nights return to St James’ Park is a dream, but one that could take a while to become a reality.
