Fans watched on in awe as Real Madrid beat Manchester City in the Champions League last night, and Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was no different.
It was an astonishing night in Spain, with Pep Guardiola’s side just minutes away from reaching the final.
They had a two goal lead on aggregate going into the 90th minute. Then a brace from Rodrygo sent the game to extra time.
A Karim Benzema penalty settled the tie, as Real Madrid did what they do best and saw out the game – much to the anger of City.

It sets up a Champions League final between Los Blancos and Liverpool, who will clash on May 28th in a repeat of the 2018 final.
We’ve witnessed two incredible nights of Champions League football, but the drama at the Bernabeu was almost beyond belief.
Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes misses the Champions League
During last night’s game, Bruno took to Twitter. He simply wrote ‘Champions League’ followed by a love heart emoji and the words ‘miss you’.
The 24-year-old has experience in Europe’s elite competition, having played their with his previous club Lyon.
He joined the Ligue 1 side in 2020, and ended up playing in the Champions League semi-finals shortly after his arrival – although the competition was delayed due to the pandemic.
The 3-0 semi-final defeat to eventual winners Bayern was the last time Bruno played in the Champions League. Now he has dreams of returning with Newcastle.

It’s going to be very difficult, even with our newfound wealth. There’s real quality at the top of the Premier League, meaning it’ll be tough for the Magpies to break into Europe.
But that is the ambitions of the new owners. And it’s the ambitions of Bruno.
It’s vital we eventually reach the Champions League, otherwise players like Bruno will eventually want to play elsewhere.
