There will have been a lot of pride behind the scenes at Newcastle United on Sunday night.
While Eddie Howe and his team have been out in Saudi Arabia, a lot of his players are representing their countries. And on Sunday night, three Newcastle United players started for England.
It was the first time three Newcastle players have started for England since 1997, with Anthony Gordon joined in Lee Carsley’s starting XI by Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento, with the latter making his international debut.
For Hall, it was his second cap, but his first ever start. Hall made his debut off the bench against Greece, but this was even more special. He started at Wembley for the Three Lions, and he did it alongside two of his Toon teammates.
Lewis Hall sends a message to Thomas Tuchel after first England start

Hall did very well against Ireland, as England won 5-0 to finish top of their Nations League group.
He looked very accomplished at left-back, combining well with the likes of Gordon and Jude Bellingham. The 20-year-old was trusted by England’s elite, getting 90 minutes in the tank and ensuring his country kept a clean sheet.
It was the latest special moment in a remarkable season for Hall. He has established himself in a Newcastle United shirt, and now he has shown England what he is capable of.
And he has done it at the perfect time, with Thomas Tuchel set to take permanent charge of the England team on January 1st. Left-back has been a problem position for England, but Hall has potentially given Tuchel an immediate solution.
Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes’ message to Lewis Hall
Following the win over Ireland, Hall took to his official Instagram account.
Alongside photos from his second England appearance, Hall wrote: “Full debut at Wembley and a great win from the team.”
The £28million man was congratulated for his performance, with Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes the two biggest names to reply to Hall’s post.
After playing for England alongside Hall, Gordon was best placed to see just how well the youngster did.
Gordon commented: “What a debut it was.”
Hall also received a message from his captain, with Bruno Guimaraes replying: “Top player.”
Hall is gaining more and more confidence
This time last year, Hall’s confidence was probably on the floor. He was failing to make an impact since joining Newcastle, while onlookers were questioning the club’s decision to pay £28million for him.
He was not getting any opportunities, even when Newcastle were enduring a horrendous injury crisis.
It must have been very difficult for Hall, but he is now a completely different player. He is trusted by Eddie Howe, which is a testament to the improvement he has made.
Hall is now trusted to be a regular for Newcastle United, and that has resulted in him performing at a really high level. He has received so many plaudits, and now his form has been rewarded with international recognition.
Hall now has two England caps to his name, and performed admirably. He barely put a foot wrong in either of his England appearances, taking his confidence to the international stage.
And the more confident Hall gets, the better he will become. That is very encouraging for Newcastle United, and for England.
