Newcastle United return to Champions League action against PSG this week and will hope to have a couple of players return from injury for this crucial fixture.
Eddie Howe is certainly limited in his options for Newcastle‘s team on Tuesday night, but there may be some positive news on the injury front.
Newcastle may see the ‘brilliant‘ Lewis Hall starting once again after being ineligible to play against Chelsea while Sean Longstaff will be hoping to make his return from injury.
Newcastle will feel confident after their 4-1 demolition of the French giants in the return fixture, though this is a much tougher challenge and their away from has been far from perfect this season.
Despite the injuries there is still a strong team that can be picked and this is the Newcastle starting XI we predict will face PSG.
Sean Longstaff to return to the starting XI
Longstaff has been absolutely crucial in some huge Newcastle wins at the heart of midfield even if a lot of his work does go unnoticed.
Though he was unavailable through injury against Chelsea, Longstaff will be desperate to return from his against PSG and help Newcastle recover from two consecutive defeats in the Champions League.
The 26-year-old played a big part in the 4-1 victory at St James’ Park after scoring a brilliant goal in the second half and will be looking for a similar outcome on Tuesday.
The Magpies don’t necessarily have to win in the French capital to qualify for the knockout rounds, but it will make it pretty challenging without three points and puts a lot of pressure on that final home game vs AC Milan.
Lewis Hall starts at left-back
It may not be the popular option considering how good Tino Livramento has proven to be down both flanks, but Howe may feel more comfortable with a more natural left-back playing in this position.
Hall was unfortunate to be given an early yellow card against Borussia Dortmund leading to him being substituted at half-time, so the ‘brilliant‘ teenager will be looking to make amends with an impressive performance against PSG.
Everyone else to keep their place
As previously mentioned, there’s not many alternatives that Newcastle can choose from due to the long injury list and once again Howe will not have a lot of options to pick from on his bench against PSG.
Lewis Miley may be disappointed not to get a start after his impressive display against Chelsea, but the 17-year-old is already getting more first-team minutes than Howe would have anticipated at this stage.
Livramento is another who has a good case to be in the team, but he is a good option to have come on and make an impact in the second-half.
