Borussia Dortmund are now understood to have joined the race for Newcastle United target and Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy who will be in high demand in January.

Newcastle have been tracking him for a few weeks now but face a lot of competition for the striker who has been on fire this season.

Journalist Christian Falk has reported that Dortmund have today come into the picture as a possible destination for Guirassy and will rival Newcastle for his signature in January.

Guirassy can’t stop scoring in Germany

Guirassy has quickly become the talk of the transfer window, firstly because of his incredible form which has seen him score 16 goals in 12 Bundesliga games, but also because of his relatively affordable release clause.

The Guinea international will be available in January for around £15m, hence why there are so many clubs who are targeting him to add to their attacking ranks.

Newcastle are one of those teams, though the £15m may still be too steep for the Magpies thanks to FPP restrictions limiting how much they can spend this season.

While Falk claims that Dortmund are rivalling Newcastle for Guirassy, Man United as well as a host of other Premier League clubs are also big admirers of the attacker, so Newcastle will have to present an attractive offer to win the race.

Newcastle could still target Guirassy for attacking depth

Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson have both been brilliant for Newcastle, but their fitness records make them unreliable talents and the team needs someone who can step in when one or both are out injured.

Guirassy could be the perfect candidate to help support the two forwards and could even work his way into the starting 11 considering the number of games Newcastle have and the goalscoring ability the 27-year-old has shown.

While FFP does limit what Newcastle can spend and injuries have meant that other positions have become more of a priority in January, the club are still exploring every possibility and have a close eye on Guirassy at the moment.
