Arsenal hit with severe injury blow ahead of Newcastle United clash

Newcastle United will not be at full strength on Sunday, and neither will Arsenal.

The Magpies face the Gunners at St James’ Park in the Premier League this weekend, as Eddie Howe attempts to make it a fourth straight home win over Mikel Arteta’s side.

Newcastle United have a couple of injury issues ahead of the game, but it is nothing new for Howe. Jacob Ramsey and Yoane Wissa are injured, with both players due to return after the October international break.

As for Arsenal, they have a fresh fitness concern of their own ahead of their trip to Tyneside.

Noni Madueke ruled out of Newcastle United vs Arsenal

Arsenal suffered another injury blow during their 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Sunday.

Noni Madueke had started on the right of attack, but was forced off at half-time with a knee problem.

It is a knee problem that is going to result in an extended spell on the sidelines, ruling him out of this weekend’s game against Newcastle United.

According to the Athletic, Madueke is going to be out of action for around two months after undergoing scans.

In truth, that is probably positive news for the Gunners, as there were fears that their summer signing had suffered an ACL injury. That would have resulted in a much lengthier absence.

Madueke’s injury comes at a time when Bukayo Saka has returned to fitness. He made his comeback at the Emirates on Sunday, and should start as Madueke’s replacement against Newcastle.

Newcastle United opted against signing Noni Madueke this summer

Madueke will not be involved at St James’ Park, having previously been a transfer target for Eddie Howe.

The England international was heavily linked with a move to Tyneside in 2024, as the Magpies attempted to bring in a new right winger.

That quest continued in 2025, but there was no fresh interest in the 23-year-old. Newcastle opted against moving for Madueke, and instead completed a deal for Anthony Elanga.

He arrived from Nottingham Forest for £55million, becoming one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever.

The Sweden international is yet to truly burst into life on Tyneside, but was massively impressive during the Champions League defeat to Barcelona.
