Anthony Gordon was unveiled as a Newcastle United player last night, and received an incredible ovation as he walked onto the St James’ Park pitch for the first time.

His £45million move from Everton was confirmed on Sunday, and the 21-year-old was in attendance for the Magpies’ Carabao Cup semi final win over Southampton.

Alongside fellow new recruit Harrison Ashby, Gordon was introduced to the crowd ahead of kickoff. The pair were hit with a wall of sound as they stepped onto the hallowed turf, with the Toon Army welcoming them to the place they now call home.

The Scouser has never been popular inside SJP, and has brawled with players who he now calls teammates. But that is all forgotten about, with Toon fans roaring him onto the pitch. He has even got his own chant already, with supporters singing his name to the tune of Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes.

Ashby has already reacted to last night’s experience, and now Gordon has commented on his first few days as a Newcastle player.

Anthony Gordon buzzing for Newcastle debut after ‘special’ welcome

The Toon winger has posted a message on his official Twitter account about his start to life on Tyneside.

He wrote: “What a welcome! My first few days in the Toon have been special… from the people in the city to the fans in the stadium, everyone has been so welcoming. Can’t wait to play in front of you all & cheer on the boys at Wembley!!!”

Gordon has received an incredible welcome since arriving in the North East, and is very excited to make his debut in a Toon shirt.

That could happen sooner rather than later, with the attacker eligible to feature on Saturday evening against West Ham.

Eddie Howe will be forced to make at least one change, with Bruno Guimaraes suspended. He will serve a three-game ban after his red card against Southampton.

The Brazilian’s absence will mean that Joelinton moves back into centre-midfield, creating an opening on the left of attack. It will likely go to Allan Saint-Maximin, but Gordon is certainly in contention to start.

The new signing witnessed a special moment inside St James’ Park on Tuesday night, and now Gordon will be looking to create his own history in a black and white shirt. He is already loving life on Tyneside, and he hasn’t even kicked a ball yet.
