Newcastle United’s latest signing Harrison Ashby has posted his reaction after walking out onto the St James’ Park pitch last night.

The 21-year-old was unveiled as a Magpies player yesterday morning, having signed from West Ham United for an undisclosed fee – rumoured to be £3m.

Ahead of the second leg of the Toon’s semi-final Carabao Cup clash against Southampton, the club announced that the new arrival, alongside other January signing Anthony Gordon, would be introduced to the home crowd before kick-off.

Taking to Instagram, Ashby has now shared his reaction to the reception they received as they graced the field at St James’ Park.

Reposting the club’s video of the pair walking out, the right-back captioned the story post, “Home sweet home” – followed by a heart emoji.

The arrival of Ashby on Tyneside will come as a huge bonus to Newcastle.

Having represented Scotland at U21 level, the 21-year-old has made seven senior appearances for the Hammers across the Premier League, and domestic and European cup competitions.

Although Howe is very content with Kieran Trippier at right-back, the club required a back-up option to help cover when needed.

With this in mind, as well as looking to the future, Ashby is a brilliant purchase for the Toon – as he has the ability to take over from the 32-year-old when the time is right (later down the line).

The Magpies are still hoping to finish in the top-four and gain Champions League qualification next season. Therefore, with domestic cup competitions to worry about as well, the youngster will provide Howe with a strong rotation option.
