Anthony Gordon is arguably the fastest player at Newcastle United, and he thinks he could become even quicker.

The 23-year-old has always had blistering speed, and it has resulted in him becoming one of Newcastle United’s best players. Anthony Gordon is now combining his speed with end product, as he enjoys the best campaign of his career.

His numbers in and around the box are incredible, with Gordon boasting 11 goals and nine assists in all competitions. All the while, he is recognised as one of the fastest players in the entire Premier League.

He is certainly one of the fastest at Newcastle United, with Jamaal Lascelles and Tino Livramento recently admitting that Gordon is top of the class when it comes to speed.

Speed is arguably Anthony Gordon’s strongest asset

Gordon’s speed in and out of possession makes him an incredibly dangerous player for Eddie Howe, and it is probably one of the reasons why the club were so willing to make him one of their most expensive signings ever last year. He cost an initial £40million from Everton, with the deal possibly rising to £45million.

The England international has proven he was worth that level of investment, and will no doubt have ambitions of becoming even better over the coming years.

However, he will not do one thing that could make him even quicker.

Anthony Gordon shares what he does not do during Newcastle United training

Gordon has appeared on The Overlap podcast alongside Gary Neville, and discussed one thing he does not do at the Newcastle United training ground – weights.

Gordon: “I don’t do weight training at all. Ever.”

Neville: “Why is that?”

Gordon: “The lads at the club do do it but one my game is not really reliant on it, I think we do enough running and that adding actual weight to your muscles and body will put your body in more stress resulting in more chance of injury. I’d probably get quicker and more explosive but I might get more injuries so it’s not worth that end result for me.”

Gordon does not need to be stronger

Gordon is right to stay clear of the weights. As well as his speed, one of his other strongest qualities is his availability. He has not missed any games this season due to injury, which is incredible when you consider how many games Newcastle have played, how many injury problems they have had and how many bumps Gordon has taken.

Yet he has bounced back every time and made himself available for the following game. He is so durable, and it is why he is so valuable.

So to do something that would possibly make him less durable would be a mistake. Sure, additional muscle might make Gordon a bit quicker and more explosive, but it is not as if he is struggling in that department right now.
