Anthony Gordon says Tino Livramento’s cross was ‘awful’

Newcastle United’s number 10 produced a brilliant volley to score his first international goal, finding the back of the net after a cross from Livramento.

However, the delivery into the box took a huge deflection on the way, casting doubt over whether Livramento could officially claim the assist.

Gordon has set the record straight, with Newcastle’s social media team asking him if the assist belongs to Livramento as they returned to the Magpies’ training ground.

“No, no way,” he said in a video posted on X.

“He done a good run but it was an awful cross. I finished it off. Awful.”

Livramento was then asked himself if he can claim the assist.

“No, I was just happy Ant managed to score,” he said.

“Even just to be involved, it’s just an amazing thing.”

Gordon and Livramento will hope to combine again vs West Ham

Gordon and Livramento both agree on the assist, but they will hope to link up like that again on Monday night when Newcastle face West Ham at St James’ Park.

Both players will be in Eddie Howe’s starting XI, as the Magpies aim to make it four wins on the bounce in all competitions.

For Livramento, it is obvious where he will play. He will be at right-back in the back four.

As for Gordon, his position is less clear. He prefers to operate down the left flank, but has been utilised on the right in Newcastle’s previous two games. That has allowed Joelinton to play on the left, where he has been linking back up with Joe Willock.

However, during the win over Nottingham Forest, Howe did tweak his forward line. Gordon and Joelinton swapped wings, which proved to be a pivotal decision as the Brazilian gave Newcastle the lead with a brilliant left-footed strike.

Joelinton proved he can be effective on the right, which might mean that Gordon starts on the left against West Ham.

Regardless, there is no doubt that Newcastle’s three England internationals will start on Monday night, with Lewis Hall joining the aforementioned duo.
