Eddie Howe has confirmed that Anthony Gordon could return for Newcastle United in their penultimate Premier League home game of the season against Brighton.
Gordon has been dealing with a hip injury in recent weeks and missed the defeats to Bournemouth and Arsenal as Newcastle United limp towards the season’s finish line.
Who is YOUR choice to start up front vs Brighton and why? 🤔
There remains a chance that Howe’s side could yet be dragged into the relegation battle, so the Newcastle United manager will no doubt be hoping to have his best players available.
Gordon could play against Brighton
Speaking ahead of the Brighton game, Howe confirmed during his pre-match press conference: “He did a session on Wednesday.
“Part of the session on Wednesday. Great to see him back on the pitch, a player of great quality and one we have missed. We will make an assessment today about whether he is fit to play tomorrow.”
If you could tell Eddie Howe to DROP one player vs Brighton – who would it be and why?!
Having Gordon back would be a boost, regardless of some of the issues with consistency he has endured this season.
Newcastle created several chances against Arsenal last time out in what was a slightly improved performance, and Gordon might have fared better at finishing them ahead of the likes of William Osula.
Potentially having him back in the squad gives Howe options. The England international could feasibly operate at left-wing, or even play up front.

Gordon transfer latest confirmed
Gordon has been linked with a transfer away from Newcastle this summer, meaning there is a real chance he could only have two appearances at St James’ Park left.
In the build-up to Saturday’s game, noted transfer expert Fabrizio Romano posted an update on social media platform X.
The journalist claimed that Gordon has a “concrete” chance of leaving Newcastle this summer. The club reportedly need to sell a big player, and the forward looks like a prime candidate on that front.
Romano links Bayern Munich and Liverpool – who almost signed the player in 2024 – with a move this summer.
Chelsea and Arsenal have also previously been linked, so it’s fair to say that Gordon is looking like one of the most in-demand players around ahead of what promises to be another dramatic summer transfer window.
