How Anthony Gordon really feels about Newcastle United fans amid mounting transfer speculation

Anthony Gordon’s future is uncertain at Newcastle United – but he does not want to end things on a sour note with supporters even if he does go.

Even a few months before the summer transfer window, Gordon has been tipped to leave Newcastle United amid links with Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Arsenal.

Gordon has often proven to be a divisive figure on Tyneside after his stunning first full season for the club. He has never really recaptured that form, amid constant links with a move away.

What changes would you make to this team?!

Fat chance either Woltemade or Wissa get in right now it seems 😂

Not all of that is his fault, of course. Newcastle almost sold Gordon in 2024, and things have rarely truly been the same since.

Still, he wants to play for the club again this season, after building up a good relationship with supporters.

Gordon likes Newcastle fans and wants to play for the club again

Gordon is currently injured and will miss Saturday’s clash with Arsenal in the Premier League due to the hip injury that ruled him out against Bournemouth last weekend.

The timing of the injury may have raised eyebrows amid mounting transfer speculation but there’s little anyone can do about that.

Indeed, Eddie Howe has stressed that Gordon has been ruled out due to injury alone and Craig Hope of The Daily Mail went one further when speaking on a video posted on YouTube

Addressing the latest with Gordon, Hope said: “Gordon and [Sandro] Tonali would be the obvious picks in that regard [when it comes to selling big players this summer].

What would you do with Anthony Gordon this summer and why?! 🤔

“But if that is the case, he [Gordon] doesn’t want to end it on a bad note. He wants to come back, he wants to play, he’s built up a good relationship with supporters over the last three years.

“So, he doesn’t want to throw that away. It’s not a case of Anthony Gordon, from what I’m told, picking and choosing games. It’s not a case of him protecting himself for a summer move off of the World Cup.

“There is a genuine injury there. So I think we’ll leave it there on Gordon.”

Gordon situation different to Alexander Isak’s

This is where the England winger deserves more respect than a certain Alexander Isak. The striker torched his legacy on Tyneside before securing a move to Liverpool.

Gordon, meanwhile, has turned up and got on with it even despite admitting the 2024 saga that almost saw him join Liverpool messed with his head.

Now, Gordon’s performances at Newcastle have declined in the Premier League since the 2023/24 campaign.

Still, he’s at least tried to do his best for the club. That may be the minimum that some expect, but it’s clearly not always what supporters get.

Cashing in on Gordon does make sense this summer, particularly if the club do really need to sell a key player. It can at least, however, end on relatively positive terms.
