Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes are ecstatic to hear that one of their teammates is definitely staying at Newcastle United.

There could be a summer of change at St James’ Park, with many players expected to come and go as Newcastle United move into the next phase of their exciting project.

It has been reported that Miguel Almiron is likely to leave, while players such as Lloyd Kelly and Tosin Adarabioyo are being target amid the club’s current centre-back crisis.

But while comings and goings are exciting, retaining your best players can be just as important. And that is why Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes are very happy about the club’s major announcement on Thursday.

Newcastle confirm new contract for key player

On Thursday afternoon, the club released a video of Nick Pope and Joelinton playing a harmless game of Connect Four.

But the video was actually made to announce Joelinton’s new contract, with the 27-year-old committing his future to the Magpies. He has signed a new deal at St James’ Park, with his previous contract set to expire in 2025. That led to suggestions that Newcastle would need to sell him this summer, but now Joelinton is here to stay.

The news has delighted Eddie Howe, who was desperate to retain the services of such an important player.
