Anthony Elanga has spoken for the first time after becoming Newcastle United’s first signing in the summer transfer window.

It’s been tough going for Newcastle United in the transfer window so far, with Eddie Howe’s plans to strengthen the squad ahead of next year’s Champions League campaign repeatedly derailed.

Newcastle have been desperate to add to the manager’s attacking arsenal, but missed out on Bryan Mbeumo, Joao Pedro, Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap.

However, after weeks of trying, they have finally managed to bring in a forward in the shape of Anthony Elanga.

Newcastle have paid a massive £55m for Elanga to Nottingham Forest, with the fee potentially rising to £60m to make him the Magpies’ second most expensive player ever.

Elanga has signed a five year deal at St James’ Park and has now spoken for the first time as a Newcastle United player.

Elanga spent two years at Nottingham Forest, developing into an outstanding Premier League winger.

After swapping the City Ground for St James’ Park, the Sweden international has paid tribute to his former club for helping him get to the level he is at now.

“I had an amazing two years at Nottingham Forest, they really helped me to become the player I am today, but I’m really happy to be here now,” he added.

“The club won a trophy last season and are building something unique, something special that I really want to be part of.

“I really want to buy into the culture, into the DNA of this club. I’m really happy to be here and I can’t wait to get started.”

Elanga is ready to get started, and could potentially make his Toon debut very soon. Newcastle United face Celtic in a friendly on 19th July, which is when supporters could see Elanga in action for the first time.
