Eddie Howe’s immediate reaction on Newcastle United signing Jacob Ramsey
Following confirmation of his arrival, Howe has spoken about Ramsey to Newcastle United’s official website.
Howe is very happy with his latest acquisition, explaining what Ramsey will bring to his Newcastle United squad.
“Jacob is another fantastic addition to our squad,” he said.
“His qualities will bring us something different on the pitch and he fits the profile of being young and hungry to develop, but also with a wealth of Premier League football under his belt.
“Jacob offers versatility and his directness in attack and has proven to be a real threat at this level in recent seasons. He performed very well in the Champions League last season too and we believe he’ll be a major asset for us.”
Jacob Ramsey can offer Eddie Howe versatility at Newcastle United
Howe loves players who can operate in multiple positions. He has got Anthony Gordon who can play out wide or as a striker, while Tino Livramento can operate at right-back and left-back.
Versatility is such an important trait for Howe, and that is exactly what he is going to get from Ramsey.
His best position is centre-midfield, with Ramsey poised to challenge the likes of Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali for a place in the starting XI. Out of that trio, Joelinton is the most likely to be ousted.
But Ramsey can also play on the wing, having been utilised as a left-sided midfielder for a lot of his Aston Villa career.
He also gives Howe the option to change his shape, as Ramsey has the technical creativity to be an attacking midfielder for Newcastle United. That is a luxury that the Magpies have not had for a long time, but one they could certainly benefit from.
