Ally McCoist was very impressed with how Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento handled Marcus Rashford in a big victory over Man United.
Rashford was completely ineffective for Man United on Saturday thanks to Livramento’s defensive efforts and was subbed off early in the second-half.
On talkSPORT, McCoist revealed that he thought that how Livramento dealt with Rashford in the game was very impressive.
Livramento kept Rashford very quiet
From kick-off, Man United’s attack were completely nullified by Newcastle’s defenders who were able to exploit the space left by Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho all game.
Livramento was again playing left-back for Newcastle and showed how good he can be at both ends of the pitch by running circles around Man United’s star man, pushing him into areas he didn’t want to be in.
Erik ten Hag was effectively forced to bring the winger off after 60 minutes because of how little impact he had made on the game, and it showed how perfectly the £32m signing had marked him on the night.
McCoist claimed that the 21-year-old did everything right against Rashford and had a brilliant game as the Magpies emerged victorious against the Red Devils.
On talkSPORT, McCoist said: “Brilliant. You better believe he can. I thought he was terrific on Tuesday night in Paris, he did exceptionally well for the goal and I said in commentary on Saturday that he’s really intelligent.
“He is playing against Rashford, what does a winger not want to do, go to the other end of the pitch? So Livramento, and I asked him after the game, and he said it was a bit of cat and mouse, if you’re a left full-back up against a tricky, pacey winger, what do you want to do? You want to take him into areas where he’s going to be least effective.
“If that takes you up the park that’s exactly what you do. He did it so well Livramento and you could see that Rashford was completely unhappy going into that area.”

Livramento is part of a young core at Newcastle
Newcastle are enjoying a good spell of form at the minute and a lot of it is down to their talented young core of players who have really impressed this season.
Livramento has been excellent since coming into the side against Man City and Man United in the last couple of months and is just one of a number of young players who could be at Newcastle for the next decade.
Fellow summer signing Lewis Hall has shown his potential in the Carabao Cup while Anthony Gordon has arguably been Newcastle’s best player this season and Alexander Isak who has been one of the most clinical strikers in the Premier League.
That’s without mentioning the likes of Joe Willock and Sven Botman who are also still 24 or younger, as well as 17-year-old Lewis Miley who has been unbelievable considering the circumstances.
