Alan Shearer has claimed that Tino Livramento will have a big future with England after his impressive performance for Newcastle United against Manchester United.
Livramento is yet to have a poor game since coming into the Newcastle team despite playing in a less familiar position for the last few weeks.
On The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer and Gary Lineker discussed Livramento’s future with England after a brilliant performance in Newcastle’s huge victory over Man United.
Livramento has become a starter for Newcastle
Despite only coming into the team because of injuries to Dan Burn and Matt Targett, Livramento has quickly made himself indispensable to Eddie Howe after a string of brilliant performances.
Whether he’s on the right or the left he has been outstanding for Newcastle after already facing some of the best wingers in world football.
In his first start against Manchester City, the £32m signing was man-of-the-match after nullifying both Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku while less than a week ago he was up against Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe for PSG.
On Saturday, Livramento completely took Marcus Rashford out of the game against Man United and was a key part of Newcastle’s attack as he continuously made driving runs into their half.
On the podcast, Lineker said: “He looks a very, very talented young player. Incredible quick, powerful, great engine up and down the line there, Alan. He is one of those players that is 21 and he is available to play for England, Scotland and Portugal.
“I think Gareth Southgate needs to get on the phone to him, I know there is no games he can play in for a little while, but you would, wouldn’t you?
“He plays on both sides as well and I know right-back we have lots of really great right-backs and Luke Shaw is a really good left-back but definitely a really good player for the future.”
Shearer added: “He has played for England at almost every level up until now. I would really hope that someone has already, and if they haven’t then they should rather quickly, get on the phone to him and tell him he has a big future in the England squad – whether that is at right-back or left-back.
“Because I am sure Newcastle bought him, they spent £30 million, and he did have a serious injury but there has always been that thing around him where he has huge potential and he’s a very good player, but I didn’t realise how good a player he was until I saw him at Newcastle, in a Newcastle shirt.
“When you consider some of the big games he has played in already this season, whether that is at right-back or like it was vs Man United at left-back, he has been absolutely sensational.”

Livramento could be on the verge of an England call-up
Livramento is traditionally a right-back and that’s where he will want to make his name for Newcastle, potentially taking over from Kieran Trippier when he retires.
However, his versatility to play down both flanks stands him in good stead to be picked for the England team considering they aren’t exactly blessed with a bundle of talented left-backs.
Livramento was outstanding for Newcastle at right-back against Man City and outstanding at left-back against Man United, so currently there’s no telling where he stronger.
Similar to Anthony Gordon’s incredible form, Livramento’s ‘sensational’ performances can’t keep being ignored by Gareth Southgate who could use an explosive full-back in his team.
There is only one more window for Southgate to get a look at his players before the Euro 2024 tournament, but there’s no reason why Livramento should not be in the running if this form continues.
