Ally McCoist tells Jesse Lingard to join Newcastle United

Ex-Sunderland man and pundit Ally McCoist has told Newcastle United January target and Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard to move to Tyneside this summer. He wants to see the English attacking midfielder playing first-team football once again.

Last season he showed his capabilities on loan at West Ham United under David Moyes. The Athletic reported that Newcastle wanted to sign Lingard in January, but there were issues working out a deal with Manchester United.

Lingard has struggled for minutes since his return to Old Trafford. He was reported to have been keen on a move to the Magpies (The Athletic).

McCoist said on talkSPORT, “I think it would be a great move for both parties. Jesse please go and get out there and start playing football.

“A move to West Ham would’ve been great obviously as well. But a move to Newcastle, a team that are on the up and are going places. I do really think it makes sense.”

Both West Ham and Newcastle could help Lingard revive his career

Ally McCoist had previously admitted his frustrations with Manchester United not letting Jesse Lingard move to Newcastle in January. Considering how well he did at West Ham last year, it’s a shame to see him wanted this season.

But a move could help him get his career back on track. He’s 28-years-old now and so if he wants to try and work his way back into Gareth Southgate’s England set-up, it getting to a now or never stage.

Some fans will echo the statement made by McCoist. In many ways, Manchester United held him back just for the sake of trying to get some cash for him, as they know the wealth Newcastle now possesses.

Lingard could add some real energy to the midfield. Eddie Howe likes to play more on the front foot in comparison to the last couple of Toon managers. It could suit the midfielder who provided a lot of goal contributions for West Ham on his loan spell.

The competition will be tough. It would come as no surprise if the Hammers came in for him. They could well have European football next season which is an attractive asset. Lingard became a fan favourite, so many West Ham fans would love to see him back.
