Ally McCoist has fumed at Bayern Munich legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge’s comments on Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade.
Leading figures at Bayern Munich have been scathing about the money Newcastle United paid to sign Woltemade from Stuttgart, with the deal thought to be worth a potential £69million.
The German striker has certainly done his talking on the pitch, however. Woltemade has scored two goals in three Premier League appearances, and it is not his fault that the team are struggling around him.
Bayern wanted to sign Woltemade but eventually lost out. Since, they have been less than complimentary about the fee, and the club’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß has said that Newcastle paid too much money for Woltemade.
Rummenigge, who is on the club’s supervisory board, suggested Stuttgart had found an “idiot” in Newcastle because they were prepared to pay such big money.
Pundit McCoist was unhappy with that.

Ally McCoist defends Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade
The former Scotland international was speaking on talkSPORT.
He stressed the comments were out of order and complimented Eddie Howe for his handling of the matter.
On Tuesday, the Newcastle United manager branded the comments as “irrelevant” and refused to be drawn into a war of words.
McCoist claimed he was staggered that such bitter comments would emerge from such a high-profile club.
If those quotes that have been attributed are correct. Out of order. Totally out of order. Once again, Eddie Howe handled it perfectly,” McCoist said.
“I just find it staggering that he would use that vocabulary. Yeah. You know, that is classless, isn’t it? From a classy club.”
What Nick Woltemade has said about his price tag
The German international has certainly taken to life at Newcastle well. While it is true that the attacking line isn’t really firing right now, at least he’s doing his part.
Woltemade is Newcastle United’s club-record signing and that would bring enough pressure on its own without having to follow in the footsteps of Alexander Isak.
Isak was one of the best forwards in the world last season and his departure left a gaping hole in Howe’s side.
However, Woltemade is at least proving there is life after Isak, even if some of his teammates are struggling to adapt.
Speaking to Spiegel earlier this month, the forward referenced his price tag.
“Even if it ended up being €75million instead of €90million, it’s obviously crazy.
“We players don’t choose our price. So, it doesn’t change much for me personally.”
Newcastle insiders have been seriously impressed by Woltemade, so there would appear to be little reason for those on Tyneside to worry…
