Newcastle United are closing in on their second signing of the summer, and it is one that could have an impact on Allan Saint-Maximin’s future.
The Magpies have made progress in their bid to sign Harvey Barnes from Leicester City, and are now confident that they are going to land the 25-year-old for around £35million.
It looks all but certain that he will be the next arrival through the door after Sandro Tonali, who became the club’s second most expensive signing ever when he joined from AC Milan.
Eddie Howe is enhancing his squad ahead of the new campaign, but a deal for Barnes could have repercussions for a player who is already at St James’ Park.
Allan Saint-Maximin linked with move away from Newcastle
The future of Saint-Maximin is massively up in the air right now. Speculation over a move away from Tyneside is more intense than ever.

He reportedly has the chance to go to Saudi Arabia, while it has been claimed that Newcastle are going to cash in on the Frenchman to fund their move for Barnes.
It could be a case of ‘one in one out’, which would be devastating for fans who are keen for ASM to remain at SJP.
He is a fan favourite, but rumours suggest that his time with the Magpies is coming to an end. Now the 26-year-old appears to have responded to the gossip via his official Instagram account.
ASM delivers 12-word message to Newcastle supporters
Saint-Maximin updated his Instagram story on Tuesday, sharing a video from a recent Newcastle training session. It shows the Toon number 10 scoring a brilliant goal, curling a long range effort into the top corner.
Alongside the video, Maxi wrote: “People can keep talking when they know nothing. I just keep working.”
While you should never assume, it seems fairly obvious that he is referring to the rumours about his future as a Newcastle United player.

As Maxi says, all he can do is continue working. And hopefully he is working hard enough to prove to Howe that he can still play a major role at St James’ Park.
This is going to be another big season for Newcastle, who are looking to challenge on multiple fronts. Our preparation has now begun with pre-season training starting earlier this week.
Next up for Newcastle is the first friendly of the summer, with Howe’s side taking on Gateshead on Saturday. We might learn more about Saint-Maximin’s future from how involved he is at the weekend.
