Former Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin has sent an emotional six-word message to fans on social media almost two years after he left for the Saudi Pro League.

The Frenchman is truly a one-in-a-million player. His pace, dribbling ability and skill were right up there with the likes of Lionel Messi.

Allan Saint-Maximin was without a doubt the most entertaining player to play for Newcastle United in recent years, bettering the likes of Hatem Ben Arfa, who was also known to be a crowd pleaser.

Despite being a fan favourite on Tyneside, Eddie Howe decided to sell Saint-Maximin for £23m in July 2023, bringing his four-year stay at the club to an end.

His career has not been the same since, with an injury-troubled season at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli followed by a year on loan with Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in Turkey. While Newcastle continue their success, Saint-Maximin has made a big admission about Newcastle that fans will be devastated to hear.

Allan Saint-Maximin admits he misses Newcastle United two years after leaving

Steve Bruce loved Saint-Maximin, but the same cannot be said for Howe, who sold him after his first full season at Newcastle.

The Magpies have moved on and have become successful without Saint-Maximin, but many have been left wondering what could have been if he had decided to stay at the club.

The 28-year-old will not return to Al-Ahli after his season in Turkey, where he appeared to engage in a verbal war with Mourinho. In a public exchange, Mourinho called Saint-Maximin unfit while pointing out his fitness troubles.

Saint-Maximin struggled with injury on several occasions for Newcastle, but that did not stop the fans from loving him even to this day.

Replying to a video on social media of his highlights at Newcastle, Saint-Maximin said: “I miss you so much too,” showing that he still feels the love from the fans and has fond memories of his time on Tyneside.

Newcastle United still looking for Allan Saint-Maximin’s replacement two years on

While Newcastle have moved on, won a cup and qualified for the Champions League again after Saint-Maximin left, there is a hole that still needs to be filled in his absence.

Newcastle are still in need of a right winger, two years after Saint-Maximin left the club. Many thought they had signed his successor in Yankuba Minteh, but the club were forced to sell him in 2024 to avoid a PSR points deduction.

While Jacob Murphy was brilliant for Newcastle during the 2024/25 campaign, there are natural concerns over whether he can carry his form into the next season, so a new right winger is being looked at as a priority by the club.

Had Saint-Maximin stayed for another season, there is a good chance that he would still be in the picture for a place in Newcastle’s starting XI, but Howe clearly had other plans which did not involve him.

Now, Newcastle have signed Antonio Cordero from Malaga. The 18-year-old will be loaned out for his first season at the club but will likely be a big part of plans for the season after.
