What England fans are saying after Thomas Tuchel snubs Newcastle United’s Jacob Murphy from his squad

Newcastle United’s Jacob Murphy has not been named in the latest England squad.

Thomas Tuchel has announced his latest Three Lions squad for the upcoming international break, including two Newcastle United players in his 26-man group.

Dan Burn and Anthony Gordon have been selected, while Jacob Murphy has been ignored.

Tino Livramento has also been snubbed by England, despite being in Tuchel’s first squad.

When it comes to Murphy, getting his first England call-up would have been the perfect end to a remarkable season. The 30-year-old has been in sublime form, and looked primed to test himself on the international stage.

Jacob Murphy ‘robbed’ as fans react to England snub

While Murphy thinks he can offer England something different, he will not receive the opportunity to prove himself right.

Tuchel’s decision not to include the Newcastle United winger has disappointed a lot of supporters, many of which have stated their displeasure on X (formerly known as Twitter).

In response to the England squad being announced, one Three Lions supporter wrote: “Am I mad for saying Jacob Murphy deserves a call up?”

“Jacob Murphy should’ve been in instead of Madueke if we’re being honest,” added another fan.

A second fan brought Noni Madueke into the conversation, noting: “I think Jacob Murphy deserved an #England call up over Madueke. Murphy has had a brilliant season for Newcastle.”

“Jacob Murphy has been robbed,” said this England supporter.

Another fan asked: “Sorry but what does Jacob Murphy have to do to get into that team?”

Finally, a sixth Three Lions supporter commented: “Where is Jacob Murphy? He is playing really well at Newcastle United, on form and yet left out. Makes no sense.”

How Jacob Murphy compares to other England attackers

Anthony Gordon, Noni Madueke and Bukayo Saka are the only out-and-out wingers named in the current England squad.

The likes of Eberechi Eze, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers are also capable of operating out wide, but are better used centrally.

In terms of goals and assists this season, Murphy ranks higher than Gordon and Madueke. Saka is the only England winger that has outperformed Murphy, and he is a world class talent.

Noni Madueke39115

On current form, Murphy can certainly feel hard done by.

While he is a lot older than the wingers that have been selected, age does not appear to be a major issue for Tuchel. Kyle Walker is back in the fold at 34-years-old, while 33-year-old Dan Burn is just starting his international career.

It is unfortunate for Murphy. If his England dream is going to become a reality in the future, he will need to pick up where he left off when the 2025/26 season begins.
