No matter what happens between now and the end of the season, Newcastle United have now confirmed the best news possible.
After missing the last three games, Eddie Howe will be back in the Newcastle United dugout on Saturday when the Toon host Ipswich.
Newcastle have confirmed Howe’s return from illness, having been admitted to hospital earlier this month with pneumonia.
Clearly, that is excellent news for the Newcastle United squad. Howe is a club legend and having him back on the touchline for the final few games of the campaign during what is a fierce battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League can only be a good thing.
But beyond that is the human aspect. Above everything else, it’s just brilliant news to hear the Newcastle United manager is doing well.
Indeed, Newcastle stars of the past including Allan Saint-Maximin and Shay Given were delighted.

“Eddie had recently been hospitalised with pneumonia and has now returned to work after a period of recovery.
“We thank supporters for their warm wishes.”
Saint-Maximin, who left Newcastle in the summer of 2023, responded with an emoji of a face smiling with happy tears in its eyes, as well as a love heart.
Former goalkeeper Given, meanwhile, added three thankful emojis of hands being clasped and being raised into their air in delight.

Talking about purely football matters when health is involved seems foolish.
The point is, however, that Howe means so much more than football to Newcastle.
He’s had a transformative impact on Tyneside, leading the club to its highest consistent point in the modern age.
An absolute hero and someone who will go down in the club’s history, it will be fantastic to see him back in action.
