Alexander Isak claims 24-year-old is Newcastle’s fastest player when running with the ball

Alexander Isak has plenty of accolades at Newcastle United, but he does not think he is the fastest player at the club.

The 24-year-old is currently the Magpies’ top scorer this season, having scored 16 times to put him ahead of Anthony Gordon. On top of that, he is also the most expensive signing in Newcastle United history.

Alexander Isak has had that honour since August 2022 when he arrived from Real Sociedad for £63million.

He has been idolised pretty much ever since his arrival at St James’ Park, while he has produced superstar moments that remind fans that he really is a world class talent. From all of his goals to that dribble against Everton last season, there is a reason why he is constantly compared to Thierry Henry.

The World Cup winner is one of the best players the Premier League has ever seen, and he was also absolutely rapid. However, Isak believes that another former Arsenal player is actually the quickest at Newcastle United right now, rather than himself.

Isak names Newcastle United’s fastest player

Isak has appeared in a video on the Newcastle United YouTube channel alongside Sven Botman, who is his best friend at the club.

The Sweden international was asked to name the quickest player in Eddie Howe’s squad, and he went with Joe Willock.

“I think Joe Willock is the fastest with the ball,” he said.

“I’m thinking with the ball. It’s still speed, but different speed.”

Joe Willock is rapid for Newcastle

When it comes to running with possession, there are not many players faster than Willock. The 24-year-old is absolutely rapid with the ball, which is a massively underrated quality in the game.

A fine example of Willock’s speed with the ball comes from Howe’s first season in charge. The midfielder drove down the touchline in stoppage time against Leicester City, setting Bruno Guimaraes up to score a dramatic winner.

His speed with the ball is lethal, and it is a quality that we have missed a lot this season. Willock has missed the majority of the campaign with an Achilles problem, and Howe will be delighted that he can rely on his athleticism in the middle of the park once again.
