Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has named one of his Toon teammates as his best friend in football.

The 24-year-old is only in his second season at St James’ Park, but already appears to have built up some incredible bonds since becoming the club’s most expensive signing ever.

Alexander Isak joined Newcastle in August 2022 from Real Sociedad, having also played for AIK in Sweden and Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.

The forward has a lot of experience and played alongside a plethora of different players despite being very young, but it is someone at Newcastle United who has established himself a brilliant friendship with Isak.

And it is also someone who the Sweden international shares a chant with…

Alexander Isak says Sven Botman is his best friend in football

Isak has been speaking to Sky Sports, who asked him to name his best friend in football. He went with Newcastle centre-back Sven Botman.

“I’d probably say Sven Botman,” he said.

“He sits next to me in the locker room. He’s a great guy. We spend a lot of time together.”

Isak and Botman are part of Newcastle’s spine

Botman signed for Newcastle during the same transfer window as Isak. His move was confirmed almost two months earlier, with the Magpies announcing that a deal had been agreed to sign him from Lille in June 2022.

He has quickly established himself as a top level Premier League centre-back, while Isak is cementing his place as the next best striker in the league behind Erling Haaland. He has got 14 goals in all competitions this season, which is more than he managed in the 2022/23 campaign.

Together, Isak and Botman are part of Newcastle’s spine. They are two players who were brought to Tyneside to play a key role in the ongoing project. Alongside Bruno Guimaraes, they were the initial focal points of the owners’ ambitions to go to the top.

As the song goes, with Botman at the back and Isak in attack, Newcastle will aim to win the Premier League one day – and with Bruno in the middle too.

It is nice to hear that Isak and Botman have struck up a strong friendship, so much so that Isak believes he is his best friend in football. They are both 24, and Isak’s declaration is testament to the team atmosphere that Eddie Howe has established at St James’ Park.

They might play at opposites end of the pitch, but Isak and Botman are best friends off it.
