Gary Neville has made a huge comparison between Thierry Henry and one Newcastle United player after his performance against Liverpool in a 4-2 defeat last night.

Newcastle as a team were pretty poor last night and were dominated by a very talented Liverpool side who will be challenging for the Premier League title again this season.

But there were moments of individual brilliance for Newcastle like Alexander Isak’s great finish to level the game up at 1-1 which earned him comparisons to a legend of the game from Neville on commentary.

Neville was blown away by Newcastle’s equalising goal

Having watched Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez squander a number of chances at the other end which could have put the game to bed by half time, Neville was very impressed with Isak’s finish to tie the game up for Newcastle.

The goal came from almost nothing as the Magpies had been dominated all game and now found themselves 1-0 down despite the heroic efforts of Martin Dubravka to keep them in the game.

Anthony Gordon played a brilliant ball through to the Swedish striker who was able to get himself around the ball despite Virgil van Dijk’s presence and fire it over and past Allison.

Isak received some of the highest praise you can get after being compared to Arsenal and Premier League legend Thierry Henry, and this is not the first time he’s shown similarities with the Frenchman.

On commentary, Neville said: “We talked about Nunez at one end, Isak just sort of, Thierry Henry-like, moves round the ball and hits across it.”

Isak’s form will be key for Newcastle

With Eddie Howe enduring the most difficult spell of his reign at Newcastle, the head coach will very much be relying on players like Isak to dig them out of this bad run of form.

Callum Wilson was missing from last night’s squad and is not expected to feature against Sunderland, so the team are again putting their hopes in Isak staying fit and healthy for what is a very tough run of games.

The attacker looked sharper than he had done in previous games where he looked tire almost from kick-off, so it will give some confidence to Howe who needs his star man to perform in these big games if Newcastle have any hopes of reaching a European spot.
