Miguel Almiron cleaned up at the Premier League monthly awards for October, and now his Newcastle United teammate Alexander Isak has the chance to do the same.
Isak has cemented his place in Eddie Howe’s starting XI with brilliant back-to-back performances, scoring three goals as Newcastle beat Wolves then Nottingham Forest.
The 23-year-old was exceptional in our previous two fixtures, and his performances have now been recognised by the Premier League.
Alexander Isak nominated for two awards
The Premier League have announced the nominees for March’s Player Of The Month – and Isak is on the list.
He has been nominated alongside Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard, Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings, Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister and Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah.

Given the level of competition, it will be impressive if Isak comes out on top and wins the accolade for the first ever time in his career.
But that is not Isak’s only chance of silverware. He has also been nominated for Goal Of The Month for his first strike against Nottingham Forest – a clever volley following neat buildup from Joe Willock and Allan Saint-Maximin.
It would be a shock if the Sweden international’s goal wins the top prize, as he is up against some impressive strikes. Jonny’s volley against Leeds is probably the pick of the bunch, in my opinion.
Fans can vote for Isak in both categories via the Premier League’s official website.
Miguel Almiron won them both for October
If Isak can somehow win both awards, he will emulate one of his current Newcastle United teammates.
Almiron was also nominated for both player and goal of the month last year, with the Premier League acknowledging his incredible efforts in October. The £21million man scored six goals – most of which were truly spectacular.
His performances saw him win Player Of The Month, and it was no surprise to see him follow it up with another award. His outrageous volley against Fulham was named Goal Of The Month, meaning Miggy had two trophies to put on his mantlepiece.
That was a spectacular effort from Almiron, who won two awards in a very busy month of Premier League football. In contrast, Isak has only been nominated on the back of three games – in all honesty he will probably not win.
But given his recent form and clear potential, this will not be the only time that Isak is nominated for awards for his contributions in a Toon shirt. He is delighting Toon officials with his progress, and it is clear that there is more to come.
