Alan Shearer says one Newcastle United player is even doing ‘simple things better than’ Alexander Isak right now

Alan Shearer has been full of praise for one Newcastle United star after his recent form.

At the moment, the Magpies look unstoppable. Six straight wins in all competitions, third in the Premier League and starting Champions League qualification in the face.

For some Newcastle United fans, they have never seen football as good as this. Kevin Keegan’s entertainers are currently being rivalled and perhaps bettered thanks to the Carabao Cup win.

Newcastle’s 5-0 win against Crystal Palace was just one of many remarkable performances this season, with the usual suspects getting on the scoresheet.

Harvey Barnes was brilliant for Newcastle, finding the back of the net for the ninth time this season, while Alexander Isak’s goal made it 21 for the season in the Premier League.

Newcastle fans are in awe of Sandro Tonali, who looks to be improving each week. But there is one player who Alan Shearer believes is a cut above the rest at the moment.

Alan Shearer praises Jacob Murphy at Newcastle United

Not many could have predicted Jacob Murphy’s rise this season. The 30-year-old has completely transformed his game and is reaping the benefits.

So far this season, Murphy has scored eight goals and bagged 11 assists so far this season, his best-ever attacking return for the Magpies.

Shearer praised Murphy on social media, but has now doubled down on his comments with an emphatic statement on the winger.

“Just talk to me guys about Jacob Murphy,” Shearer said on the Rest is Football.

“After 20 seconds, he gets the ball and all he wants to do is put this amazing cross into the box. One of those horrible crosses for the goalkeeper and defenders that’s in between them and Isak couldn’t quite get on the end of it, Joelinton couldn’t.

“Jacob Murphy is doing the simple things better than anyone at the moment, he really is. I mean, the season he’s having, oh my goodness.

“Tonali, Isak, Harvey Barnes again – what a performance.”

Jacob Murphy makes a big argument for England call-up

At one point, it looked like Murphy was set to leave Newcastle after loan spells in the Championship under Rafa Benitez and Steve Bruce. Under Eddie Howe, Murphy is thriving and has never looked better.

Thomas Tuchel was in attendance at St James’ Park as Newcastle beat Manchester United 4-1. Murphy put in another positive performance in that game, bagging an assist.

The England boss is sure to have Murphy on his radar and the winger himself will have some belief that he has given enough to earn a call-up.

Tuchel gave Dan Burn his England debut in March, a move that shocked many outside of Newcastle but came as no surprise to supporters.

Barnes has backed Murphy to play for England this summer, even going as far as to say that he will sign a petition to get him in the squad.
