Alan Shearer is much happier with Newcastle United right now.
The Newcastle United legend was very critical of Eddie Howe’s side before this five-match winning run, with Alan Shearer questioning the attitude of the players.
He was right to do that, and the Magpies have responded in emphatic fashion.
Newcastle United are up to fifth in the Premier League and preparing for a Carabao Cup semi-final, while Howe’s top stars are delivering on a consistent basis.

Newcastle’s Lewis Hall continues to impress
However, Newcastle’s most consistent player this season has been Lewis Hall.
The 20-year-old is enjoying an exceptional campaign, and continued his good form with an assist during Newcastle’s win over Manchester United on December 30th.
Hall was Newcastle’s most improved player in 2024, and he looks set for an even bigger 2025.
That is the view of Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker, who think the left-back could establish himself as an England star this year.

Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker make Lewis Hall prediction
Speaking on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker said he thinks Hall could be the answer to England’s left-back problem.
And Shearer simply had to agree.
“Talented, really really good,” Shearer said.
“He’s very good defensively and, of course, going forward as well. It was him that put the ball in for Isak [against Man United].
“He’s got a real chance of claiming that left-back spot for England, definitely.”
Lewis Hall’s first chance to impress the new England manager
Hall made his England debut against Greece in November 2024, with Lee Carsley handing him his first ever Three Lions appearance.
Now a new manager is in charge, with Thomas Tuchel taking over as Gareth Southgate’s permanent successor.
He started his new role on January 1st, and is set to take in his first game as England boss on Saturday when Newcastle United face Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tuchel will have an immediate chance to see Hall close up, having given him his Chelsea debut back in January 2022.
Three years on and Hall is establishing himself as a real star of the future for both Newcastle United and England. His development has been outstanding, and there is still so much more to come from a player who cost the Magpies £28million.
After making the left-back position his own at St James’ Park, Hall now has the chance to do it at international level in 2025.
Shearer and Lineker think he can, and we completely agree too.
