Alan Shearer responds when asked if he’d rather play one more game for Newcastle or have hair again

A lot has changed since Alan Shearer last played for Newcastle United.

The club has changed hands twice, with Mike Ashley arriving before being bought out by PIF in 2021. Newcastle have also been relegated twice, with both instances coming when Ashley was the owner. He even hired Alan Shearer to get the club out of the mire!

Shearer was unable to get the job done, and has never returned to management. Instead, he is one of the stars of Match Of The Day, working as a pundit for BBC Sport.

He is also immortalised at St James’ Park with a statue – although it was only placed on the club’s land last year after Amanda Staveley and co took over.

Shearer is recognised as a Newcastle great, and rightly so. He made 405 appearances for the club, scoring 206 goals. No player has scored more goals for the Magpies than him.

His last ever Toon goal came on April 17th 2006, scoring a penalty during a 4-1 win over Sunderland at the Stadium Of Light.

On that day, Shearer suffered an injury that would end his season early, bringing a premature end to his Newcastle career. That was 17 years ago, back when the 53-year-old had hair!

Now he has been asked the ultimate ‘would you rather’…

Alan Shearer would rather play for Newcastle one more time

Shearer has appeared on the latest episode of The Rest Is Football podcast, where he was asked if he would rather have his hair back or play for Newcastle one more time.

“One more game!,” he said.

“I’m not bothered about it, it’s so much easier not having hair! You two must get up in the morning and do all this c—- and sort your hair out. Micah gets his cut twice a week and pays £300 to get his mate from London. I just have a wet shave once a week and it’s perfect.

“Play for Newcastle once more all day every day!”

Newcastle could really do with Shearer right now

It’s a no brainer for Shearer – he would love to don the famous black and white stripes one more time!

Eddie Howe would love that too, as he is short of strikers right now.

Alexander Isak is out with a groin injury, and will not return until after the November international break. That means Callum Wilson is Newcastle’s only fit striker right now, and he is someone who has been plagued by injuries over the years.

It is a delicate situation for Howe to manage, who would love to have another striker at his disposal right now. And to have someone as good as Shearer would be an absolute dream, as he would score so many goals in this Newcastle team!
