Alan Shearer names the Newcastle player he would love to play alongside

Eddie Howe has built an incredible Newcastle United team, and they would be even better with Alan Shearer leading the line.

While Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak are both outstanding, neither come close to Shearer. He is the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer, and that is a record that will remain his for a while longer following Harry Kane’s move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Match Of The Day pundit would make Newcastle even more deadly in front of goal – not that they are struggling right now. The Magpies scored five on the opening weekend of the season, smashing Aston Villa 5-1 to go top of the Premier League.

There were some top level performances from players in black and white, with Newcastle looking to prove early on that last season was not a flash in the pan. Howe’s side are here to stay, and they are only going to get better.

Like every Newcastle fan, Shearer absolutely loves watching this Newcastle team, and there is one member of Howe’s squad that he wishes he could play alongside.

Alan Shearer would ‘love’ to represent Newcastle alongside Kieran Trippier

Toon legend Shearer has been speaking to The Magpie Channel on YouTube, where he was asked who he would pick if he could play alongside one current Newcastle United player.

“I think there’s so many,” he said.

“The way Trippier gets up and down that wing and whips balls in, I would love to be on the end of a couple of his crosses.

“There’s been huge improvement from so many players. Almiron has been superb. Joelinton has been huge.

“But probably Trippier. He was the gamechanger. He was the first in to try and change things. And he’s had a good start.”

It is the perfect pick from Shearer. Combining his aerial prowess with Trippier’s crossing ability is a match made in heaven. Shearer would score so many goals, and the £12million defender would get so many assists.

Instead, Trippier will have to settle for setting up Wilson and Isak, which he will look to do more and more this season.

Both Toon strikers have already scored this season. Isak got a brace against Villa, while Wilson came off the bench to get his first of the campaign.

As for Trippier, he was unable to get an assist for any of the five goals Newcastle scored at the weekend. He will hope to get his first on Saturday when the Magpies take on his former club Manchester City.

That would delight Shearer, who will be watching on and dreaming about getting on the end of one of Trippier’s world class crosses.
