Alan Shearer holds an England record at Newcastle United that will not get close to being broken any time soon.
International football will take centre stage in 2026 as the beloved World Cup returns, four-and-a-half years on from the last edition in Qatar.
The next tournament will be held in North America between the USA, Mexico and Canada, with Newcastle United hoping to have several representatives in the tournament.
Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton’s Brazil have long been qualified, while an Anthony Gordon-inspired England became the first European team to seal their place in October.
Gordon’s spot in Thomas Tuchel’s squad is surely guaranteed, while Dan Burn, Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall will all be hoping to make the trip for the newly expanded 48-team tournament.
The quartet will want to add to their England caps, but they have some way to go before they reach the tally set by Alan Shearer during his time at Newcastle.

Alan Shearer is Newcastle United’s most capped England player ever
Newcastle legend Shearer isn’t only an icon in the North East and one of the best players the region has ever produced, but he’s one of England’s best footballers ever, too.
Despite retiring nearly 20 years ago, Shearer’s remarkable record of 260 Premier League goals has not come close to being touched.
Shearer also enjoyed a brilliant England career, scoring 30 goals in 63 appearances, captaining the Three Lions in two tournaments and winning the Golden Boot at Euro 96.
35 of his England caps came while he was at St. James’ Park, making him Newcastle’s most-capped England player ever.
Every Newcastle United player to play for England
Shearer is the most capped Newcastle player ever, just beating out former midfielder Kieron Dyer, who picked up 32 caps during his time in the North East.
In total, 43 Newcastle players have played for England with a total of 322 caps amassed so far.

That figure of 322 caps will increase soon, with Gordon impressing for England in recent weeks and becoming an almost-guaranteed starter for Tuchel ahead of the World Cup.
Burn is also a regular in the squad, while Livramento and Hall will be hoping to be involved in the future as well.
It looks as though Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope’s international careers have ended, but there is always a chance they could get a surprise recall.
Regardless, it’ll be a while before any Newcastle player closes in on Shearer’s record. Gordon is the closest with 16, but it will still take him a couple of years, even if he plays every game, to get there.
