Newcastle United’s list of top goalscorers in the history of the Premier League makes for impressive reading.

The Premier League changed the course of football history when it first got underway in 1992, but it wasn’t until 1994 that Newcastle United finally reached it.

Remarkably, Newcastle finished third in their first season and would famously finish runners-up in 1996 and 1997 after Kevin Keegan’s Entertainers went so close to triumph.

The Magpies remained in the top flight until they were relegated in 2009. Though they earned an instant return, relegation would come again in 2016.

Again, Newcastle came straight back up but have remained there ever since to become one of its best and richest sides.

Of the Premier League’s 32 seasons, Newcastle have been in all but four, so they have played a lot of games and scored a lot of goals.

Here’s who has grabbed the most.

5 – Shola Ameobi and Andrew Cole – 43

Fifth place is jointly held by two legendary Newcastle strikers, though it took them very different amounts of time to reach their tallies.

34 of Andrew Cole’s goals came in a single season (93-94) upon Newcastle’s first promotion as he won the Golden Boot. Cole would leave shortly afterwards in 1995 to join Manchester United in a move that still stings to this day.

Shola Ameobi, meanwhile, saw his goals spread out over the 14 years he spent at St. James’ Park. He’ll always be remembered for the seven (more than any other club) he bagged against fierce rivals Sunderland.

4 – Peter Beardsley – 46

Peter Beardsley began his career at Newcastle, but it wasn’t until he left and became one of England’s best players did he return in 1993 to finally play for them.

He returned as a marquee £1.5m signing after Newcastle made it to the first division, with former teammate Keegan convincing him to join.

He scored 21 goals alone in his first season, and hit double figures in the next two campaigns. After scoring just eight in 1996-97, he left for Bolton Wanderers.

3 – Callum Wilson – 47

Before PIF took over and turned Newcastle into a financial behemoth, the club couldn’t compete for the world’s best players but could still sign very good ones. Like Callum Wilson.

Signed for £20m from Bournemouth, Wilson made an instant impact with 12 goals in his opening season. His best season came in 2022-23, though, in which he bagged 18 strikes.

Though injuries have hampered his years at Newcastle, he still remains one of their best strikers in Premier League history.

2 – Alexander Isak – 54

In no surprise, Alexander Isak became Newcastle’s second-highest Premier League scorer ever in his sensational 2024-25 season, overtaking Wilson.

The Swede’s 24 goals fired the Toon back to the Champions League, with some incredible finishes sprinkled in along the way.

That’s an improvement on his first two seasons, in which he scored 10 and then 21, as he continues his ascent to being one of the game’s best strikers.

1 – Alan Shearer – 148

Obviously.

The iconic Alan Shearer is the Premier League’s all-time leading goal scorer with 260, a figure that Harry Kane has come closest to with 213, but it will be years until anyone else does so.

148 of those strikes came during his decade at Newcastle between 1996-2006, with the rest coming during his Premier League-winning stint at Blackburn Rovers.
