When Alan Pardew was Newcastle United manager, he never came close to winning a trophy.
He was not expected to either, with then owner Mike Ashley merely content with Newcastle ticking over and staying in the Premier League.
But everything has changed at St James’ Park. It is now two years since Ashley sold the club to PIF, and the Magpies have never looked back.
Eddie Howe has taken the Magpies to unimaginable heights, and recently recorded one of the club’s most famous ever wins when they beat Paris Saint-Germain 4-1 in the Champions League.
Newcastle even nearly ended their trophy drought last season, making it to the Carabao Cup final. Sadly, they lost 2-0 to Manchester United at Wembley.

But that will not be Newcastle’s last final under this ownership, and Pardew is very confident that Howe can do what he couldn’t at St James’ Park.
Newcastle will ‘absolutely’ win a trophy under Howe according to Pardew
Pardew has been speaking on TalkSPORT on Monday morning, and was asked if he thinks Howe can win a trophy as Newcastle United manager.
“Absolutely,” he said.
“Of course he can, I don’t think one club mirrors another and the budget that Eddie has, and the backing he has, and the faith of the fans is going to carry him all the way to a trophy. I’m absolutely convinced about it.”

Full confidence in Eddie Howe
Alan Pardew is very confident that Howe can bring a trophy to Newcastle, and hopefully his confidence is not misplaced.
It will be a feeling that is shared by the Toon owners, who completely back Howe and his management team. They did not blink when Newcastle were struggling at the start of the season, despite the usual noise from pundits outside the club.
Newcastle came so close to a trophy last season under Howe, and that will only make him hungrier for success.
The Magpies are looking to go one further in the Carabao Cup this time, and have already knocked Manchester City out of the competition.
Next up is the defending champions Man United. If Newcastle can get revenge and knock them out then Toon fans will start to dream about Wembley once again.
And if they get there, Pardew’s trophy claim about Howe could prove to be correct.
